EASTERN SIERRAS – WHITNEY PORTAL
C/7(3500’)/15;
C/6(3600’)/24;
CD/7(4800)/29
We finish our tour with a wonderful but difficult climb out of the high desert towards Mt. Whitney. The route starts out tame and ends up tough with an average grade over 9% for the last 5.5 miles finishing at Whitney Portal (el. 8,400’). This lovely high alpine valley is where hikers embark to summit the highest peak in the continental USA. After a snack enjoy a splendid descent with a swoop down the fantastic Tuttle Creek Road where many famous movies were filmed. SHORT route starts at 4,900’ just past the Movie Road junction. The EZ START option (need carpool) follows the SHORT route, then glides back down to Lone Pine via Tuttle Creek Road. Optional lunch back in town. This ride is co-listed with ACTC.
