EASTERN SIERRAS – PINE CREEK
C/2(1800’)/36;
CD/3.5(4000)/ 48
This route takes us to the site of the Pine Creek tungsten mine at the top of Pine Creek Rd. (el. 7,425'). After a moderate start, there is a tough ascent (Long Route) to the top of Pine Creek. We’ll pass through Rovana, a ghost town of the Vandium Corporation during the mine’s heydays in the late 1940’s. Water at #24 Idaho St. in Rovana (Jon Dunn’s House), but carry plenty of water and snacks. We’ll return along the gorgeous Owens Gorge, followed by traditional lunch at the end of the ride at Schat’s Bakery , 763 N. Main St. in Bishop. SHORT route skips the ascent to Pine Creek but still loops through the Owens Gorge. NOTE: GPS shows long gravel sections, that is incorrect - route is almost all paved. This ride is co-listed with ACTC.
