I'm going to pull a Shawnery and paint a bit outside the lines for this one. I like to do San Bruno Mtn once a year, but this time I want to shorten the distance and add in one more climb - Sweeney Ridge, which we usually skip. Unlike a typical HRU, you'll have to look hard to spot any redwoods along the route.
I plan to park in Skyline heading south, well above the entrance to Sawyer Camp, in the shade, just as you drive into the trees. There is quite a bit of parking along this southbound shoulder up high, with an easy coast to the start. If you want to add 20 miles extra, park at the Pioneer and ride to the start. Or to add 8 miles, park at Edgewood and Canada.
Assemble at the entrance to Crystal Springs Sawyer Camp entrance for a 9AM departure. There are restrooms, but no water until the end of the trail.
49 miles, with about 5000 feet of climbing.
Lunch at the Los Cuates Taqueria at the bottom of San Bruno Mtn, after the climb.
Weather from Randoplan (looks really nice)
