Join us on this fun tour as we rediscover the intriguing history and the unique gems hidden in the Aptos Hills and Larkin Valley. Witness the remnants of a ship made of cement, the Cement Ship (SS Palo Alto) where the locals once danced and partied to the live music of Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. Cycling through the shaded back roads leads us to the dancing chickens of the Glaum Egg Ranch. Then “bathe” in a field of aromatic lavenders at Noble Harvest Lavender Farm. We’ll recall California history back to the 1775 Anza Expedition as we visit the San Andres Castro Adobe State Historic Park.
Lunch stop will be on Hanger Way, across from the Watsonville Municipal Airport which served as the sister dirigible airfield to Moffett Field patrolling the Pacific coastline for enemy submarines during WWII. Restaurants include Beer Mule 30 , Slice Project, Mr Z’s reps & Teas, HoneyLuxe Coffee. We complete the tour as we ride through strawberry fields along San Andreas Rd.
Restrooms are available at the start at Seascape County Park, mile 3 at Seacliff State Beach, mile 14 at Scott County Park, and mile 24 at Hangar Way (lunch stop). Our stops at the “Gems” typically do not have restrooms.
