Ride Description

For those Sequoia volunteers attending the Volunteer Fiesta in Huddart Park who would prefer to hike that day rather than do one of the bike rides (park back country is quite scenic), Bob and Nancy Williams -- (650) 248-3081, nancywilliams952@gmail.com -- will be leading once again this year. We are grateful to Howard Shafer and Jacquette Ward who conceived of the hiking option two years ago and led the inaugural trek.

We will leave from the Zwierlein Picnic Area promptly at 10:30 a.m. so we can be back in time for the Fiesta. The hike is 3.3 miles on a largely well-constructed dirt trail with a few rocky or steep spots. Specifically, there is one long climb of 450 feet over 0.8 miles (an 11% grade), and a shorter gentler one of 150 feet, but in good condition and very walkable. Written route directions will be provided. Wear sturdy footwear, don a sun hat, and bring plenty of water.

We will meet at the restrooms on the end of the Zwierlein Trailhead parking lot. Please arrive early to use the restroom as there are no bathroom facilities on the hike (just a few sparse bushes, as the park staff have done a meticulous job of clearing brush for fire mitigation). Consider biking or carpooling to the start; if you drive you will need to pay the $6 entry/parking fee. Please note: Hikers only, as mountain bikes are not allowed on park trails.

THIS EVENT IS FOR SEQUOIA VOLUNTEERS ONLY.
