From Sebastopol head out to Occidental, and down the Russian River to Hwy 1. Right after crossing the river near Jenner we turn left and ride along the south side of the Russian River for a bit. After 4 miles there’s a gate across the road, and it gets really peaceful for several miles. It’s not technical, since it was once a paved road. You can ride it on 25 mm tires, and probably 23 mm tires will also work. Since the unpaved parts are decayed asphalt, it should be rideable unless there’s a lot of heavy rain. There are one or two really steep bits, but they’re short, and it’s not a great hardship to walk them. We come out on Coleman Valley Road and continue through Freestone. The route is in the club library at https:// www.grizz.org/routes/detail.php?id=181, except that we take Moscow Road on the south side of the Russian River. For the exact route see https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37252403. Many roads in Sonoma County have been resurfaced, among them Occidental Road, Bohemian Highway, and the first part of Willow Creek road. It’s a pleasure to ride them, which wasn’t always the case. The coffee shop in Duncan’s Mills has limited offerings, and there’s not much at Wild Flour either. You had best bring your own sustenance. Please download your own map or print from https://mail.employees.org/~pmorton/gpc/rides/Willow_Creek_via_Occidental_Rd-_Moscow_Road.pdf. Let us know if you need a printed version of the route.
