NORTHERN SIERRA - LA PORTE ROAD
Starting at Dame Shirley Plaza in downtown Quincy, this route skirts around the city, then heads out La Porte Road, which starts with a few shorter climbs, passes historic Nelson Bridge (built in 1890), then steeply rises to a ridgeline with great views. All routes stop for lunch on the way back at fabulous Red Bridge Swimming Hole on the Middle Fork Feather River. Be sure to pack your swimsuit! The 200 foot trail to the swimming hole is fine for SPD shoes, but if you have road shoes pack some cleat covers or alternate footwear. B route turns around at Nelson Bridge and C route climbs about 700 feet to a viewpoint. D route climbs all the way up to the ridgeline for some great views. Ice cream stop in town 5 miles from the end! No water sources on route. Pack your lunch and at least 3 water bottles for this ride!
