Whoâs up for an adventure? This one is taking us to NAPA! Keep reading, cause (as most fun adventures go) this takes a little bit of effort). đ
Start Location: Suisun City Amtrakâ¨
Meet Time at Suisun City Train Station: 9:00am // Roll 9:09amâ¨
Pace: 14-15mphâ¨Drop Ride (but will work to keep group together)â¨Surface: Road
â¨Lights and Reflective Gear Mandatory
READ THIS FIRST!
This is a big day. This is a drop ride. There is no sweep car and no support on course. You must be self-sufficient and take care of yourself. This isnât to scare you. Itâs be to very clear and transparent. Please donât bite off more than you can handle.
That saidâŚif you would like to join, read on ;)
GETTING TO THE RIDE START:
Yes, you need to get to SUISUN CITY AMTRAK, which means you need to take an Amtrak train or drive. But be mindful this is a point-to-point ride, so we are ending in SF, at SAN FRANCISCO GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE.
Amtrak trains can be found from the Oakland Amtrak station, or through a connection at Richmond (check your local transit options). Rich and I will be taking the 7:48am Amtrak train from the Oakland Jack London Square station arriving at 8:55am. Please be mindful and give yourself a time buffer for transit (ie if you miss the train, you miss the ride start).
TRAINS & BIKE CAPACITY:
The train is the AMTRAK CAPITOL CORRIDOR which is a very bike friendly train (so none of the bike restrictions that you might have heard from other routes apply). Thereâs dedicated âbike carsâ on each train that can hold approximately 12-15 bikes. Plus, 3 more bike racks are available on lower level cars. To ensure peace of mind, grab a small luggage lock ($20 on amazon) itâs super easy to secure, and carry, without a lot of weight.
RIDE VIBE:
Given the late start, and long route, weâll focus on moving with intention on the ride (not rushing) but being efficient with our stops.
RIDE SCENARY:
We start in farmland, cruising to a climb that takes us into Napa, through valleys and vineyards. The roads are smoothy and the vistas will be stunning. We stop in Healdsburg for lunch (Carlâs Jr or something you like). Then back on the road through Sonoma, passing through Occidental, Freestone, Valley Ford, Point Reyes and then over the Golden Gate Bridge (which if youâve never had to ask for the gate to open at night, itâs an experience in itself) and blammoâŚhome!
RIDE STOPS:
Calistoga - Water / Bathroom (54 miles)
Healdsburg - Lunch / Bathroom (92 miles)
Valley Ford - Last Provisions / Bathroom (130 miles)
Point Reyes - Water / Bathroom (153 miles)
GGB - done (189 miles)
THIS IS A DROP RIDE
We're def here for a fun day. We're calling this as a DROP RIDE incase folks want to just join for part of the adventure, or incase they want to pull the chute midway. We certainly won't be racing this, however, we just want to be clear about everyone being in charge of their own ride. (ie know your train schedules and bail points if you do need to pull the chute).
ARRIVAL WILL BE LATE
This ride will take us until 9/10pm to complete, so plan accordingly. We'll also focus on keeping the group moving (not rushing, but we do want to ensure we aren't out ALL night).
FUEL AT THE START
Finally, we'll have some single serves of Hummingbird Fuels for folks at the start. But please bring your own food and all flat fixing/clothing/supplies, everything you need for a big day, and night out.
YOUR BIKE
Finally, ensure your bike is in good working order. You have proper lights, reflective gear (vest or sash), ankle reflectors, and other items (recharger for phone/computer), layers for changing weather, bike lock for train. If you need some tips on what to bring for a big ride like this...LMK ;)
YOU MUST SIGN THE WAIVER TO JOIN THIS ACTIVITY. NO SIGNED WAIVER. NO OFFICIAL PARTICIPATION. YOU ARE NOT ON THE ACTIVITY WITHOUT A SIGNED WAIVER:
