The 49-Mile Scenic Drive in San Francisco is a historic route designed to showcase the city's diverse attractions and natural beauty. Created in 1938, it was intended to guide visitors during the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. However, it’s not an ideal route for cycling. A few years back Heather Knight of the SF Chronicle made a revised version intended for cycling or walking. Our route is based on hers.
We’ll meet at the Clubhouse at 9:00 and roll at 9:30. This will not be a fast ride, since there are so many traffic lights and stop signs in the City. However, it will be challenging. There are plenty of steep hills – this IS San Francisco. You’ll see a few short but very steep hills and some longer more moderate ones.
We’ll try to stick together and but please come prepared with the route loaded and bring with you anything needed to fix a mechanical issue should one occur and you find yourself away from the group.
I look forward to seeing you there!
