Ride Description

Augustโ€™s ramble is something a little different. The team will be hosting a campout Friday and Saturday nights (8/22-24) at China Camp State Park. (Info on joining campout at link below) Since weโ€™ll all be camping there, weโ€™ll be starting the ramble from the campground at 10a to give anyone not camping with us a chance to get to the start.

Arrive 9:30 for coffee and conversation, wheels up at 10. Huck team members will lead groups out on short expeditions, allowing folks to ride one or more loops. China Camp is a compact area honeycombed with trails, so weโ€™ll be sticking to a few short loops that can be completed in small groups at several paces.

Weโ€™ll end with a swim at Turtle Rock followed by bbq. See below if youโ€™d like to stay the night!

Routes:
Short (8.4 mi, 825ft โ€“ easy terrain): https://www.strava.com/routes/3388301621504081750
Medium (13mi, 1600ft โ€“ more challenging but gravel bike-able): https://www.strava.com/routes/3388301792926821956
Long (21.6mi, 4000ft โ€“ scary, mtb or willingness to walk required): https://www.strava.com/routes/3388303915236921174

What to expect:
Challenging trails โ€“ CCSP is all up or down single track with little to no flats. (Think JMP but steeper). The routes are selected somewhat for easy/medium/hard difficulty but everyone is encouraged to dismount rather than attempt anything that sketches them out.
Gravel bikes with 40+ tires will work, a hardtail will be more fun, dropper post just may save your ass. Ride times expected to be about 1, 2, and 4 hours respectively. Please bring adequate water, snacks, and tools for your needs.

Disclaimer:
Cycling, especially off-road, is an inherently dangerous activity. Riders should always exercise caution, recognizing when it is safer to dismount and walk past a feature. The team does its best to curate challenging and enjoyable experiences, but we cannot guarantee your safety. We are neither mechanics nor medical professionals; we cannot offer much more than a multitool and a cell phone in case of an emergency.

Campout Info:
Weโ€™ve reserved three campsites for the weekend and weโ€™d love for you to join us! Weโ€™ll be providing the sites, camp kitchen facilities, and some food staples for breakfast and dinner โ€“ feel free to bring your own nosh and slosh to share!

To attend, we ask that you bring whatever supplies you need to be survive and thrive, plus contribute $25 toward the cost of the site reservation and food costs. If cost is a barrier, please contact David (Strava DM or @true_spokes on IG) to make arrangements. Similarly, if you would prefer to drive, we can supply a limited number of parking passes.
You can access additional info at the link below. We will follow up as the date nears to share logistics.
