Augustโs ramble is something a little different. The team will be hosting a campout Friday and Saturday nights (8/22-24) at China Camp State Park. (Info on joining campout at link below) Since weโll all be camping there, weโll be starting the ramble from the campground at 10a to give anyone not camping with us a chance to get to the start.
Arrive 9:30 for coffee and conversation, wheels up at 10. Huck team members will lead groups out on short expeditions, allowing folks to ride one or more loops. China Camp is a compact area honeycombed with trails, so weโll be sticking to a few short loops that can be completed in small groups at several paces.
Weโll end with a swim at Turtle Rock followed by bbq. See below if youโd like to stay the night!
Routes:
Short (8.4 mi, 825ft โ easy terrain): https://www.strava.com/routes/3388301621504081750
Medium (13mi, 1600ft โ more challenging but gravel bike-able): https://www.strava.com/routes/3388301792926821956
Long (21.6mi, 4000ft โ scary, mtb or willingness to walk required): https://www.strava.com/routes/3388303915236921174
What to expect:
Challenging trails โ CCSP is all up or down single track with little to no flats. (Think JMP but steeper). The routes are selected somewhat for easy/medium/hard difficulty but everyone is encouraged to dismount rather than attempt anything that sketches them out.
Gravel bikes with 40+ tires will work, a hardtail will be more fun, dropper post just may save your ass. Ride times expected to be about 1, 2, and 4 hours respectively. Please bring adequate water, snacks, and tools for your needs.
Disclaimer:
Cycling, especially off-road, is an inherently dangerous activity. Riders should always exercise caution, recognizing when it is safer to dismount and walk past a feature. The team does its best to curate challenging and enjoyable experiences, but we cannot guarantee your safety. We are neither mechanics nor medical professionals; we cannot offer much more than a multitool and a cell phone in case of an emergency.
