Redwood Road between Castro Valley and Pinehurst is finally open! Come join us for a ride on one of the best cycling roads in the Bay Area.
The group will roll from the bike shop at 8:30am and head down Danville Blvd (aka The Boulevard) which turns in San Ramon Valley Blvd. Right turn on Silvergate to avoid the big intersections, and then onto Dublin Blvd which climbs to our first stop at Dublin Hills Regional Open Space Preserve. This is a basic staging area with a bathroom, water may or may not work. Then we continue down into Castro Valley, and over to Redwood Road - please pay attention to the turns we take when entering and navigating through Castro Valley. The series of turns is -> right on Crow Canyon, left on Cull Canyon, left on Heyer, right onto Redwood Road. We will have a quick regroup on Redwood Road at the top of the climb - Marciel Staging Area, before heading the rest of the way to Pinehurst Road. A right turn onto Pinehurst and up the short climb, before dropping into Canyon, then a right turn onto Canyon Road to Moraga. We will have our last regroup after entering Moraga and before* turning left onto Moraga Way heading to Orinda. Then turn right and take the bike path along Highway 24 to Lafayette, past the Lafayette Reservoir. Suggested route through Lafayette is the "Bicycle Bypass" which is a combination of four roads/turns to avoid the incredibly dangerous downtown district. Right turn onto Mountain View, left turn onto Brook Street, left turn onto Moraga Road*, and a right turn onto Moraga Blvd*. Small portion of bike path to Olympic, then left on Blvd way back to the shop.
Soaking wet roads and/or steady rain will cancel the ride.
Please download the route in advance, and plan your food and hydration.
