Gravel Ride: Alpine, Bella Vista, Black Mountain, Montebello, Stevens Canyon, back down Alpine
This is a gravel ride for newer gravel riders but still challenging. We recommend 38 mm tires or wider, although it has been ridden on narrower road tires with difficulty. The ride is primarily on dirt. We will stay together and not drop anyone.
The ride goes up Alpine (mostly dirt) to Page Mill, then up Bella Vista (dirt) to the top of Black Mountain, then down Montebello to Stevens Canyon, then up Stevens Canyon (dirt) to Page Mill. Finally, the ride descends Alpine Road (mostly dirt) to the Start.
There is no food on the route. Bring lunch to eat on Black Mountain. There is one water stop (if needed) on Page Mill Road before we climb Black Mountain, there is a bathroom (but no water) at the Black Mountain campground, and a water/bathroom stop at the intersection of Stevens Canyon and Mount Eden Roads after we ride down Montebello Road.
NOTE: Much of this ride is in Mid-Pen (Mid-Peninsula Open Space District), and they do not allow e-bikes on their trails.
